The Scarsdale Diet
The Scarsdale Diet is a low-carb, low-fat, high protein diet that promises rapid weight loss. This diet plan was developed by American cardiologist Herman Tarnower in the 1970s. Dr. Herman Tarnower published a book called "The Complete Scarsdale Medical Diet", which became one of most popular fad diets in history. It is a very low-calorie diet that provides between 850 and 1000 calories per day. The Scarsdale Diet must be followed for 14 days.
How to Eat?
This diet plan is based on eating lean protein and low-carbohydrate foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean meat. 43% of calories should come from protein, with 34% from carbohydrates and 23% from fats. When you are on this diet, you need to drink at least 4 glasses of water per day. Water rids your body of toxins and makes you feel fuller. While you are on this diet, you need to eat only 3 meals per day. Another rule is to avoid snacking between meals.

- Other: Eggs, Herbs, Salt, Ketchup, Vinegar, Mustard
What to Avoid?
- Avoid dairy products such as milk, cheese and ice cream.
- Restrict your bread to two slices per day
- Avoid oil, butter, margarine and high-fat meats.
- Don't drink any alcoholic beverages.
- Avoid peas, potatoes, corn, lentils, and avocados.
Following this diet can result in a quick weight loss because, it's so low in calories. The Scarsdale diet claims it can have a weight loss of 1 pound per day. It can also reduce the risk of weight-related diseases, such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease. Even though the plan is strict, there are still enough food choices for flexibility.
