D'Adamo's theory is based on four decades of work that he and his father did on the connections between blood type, food, and disease. He believes that every individual should have a diet with specific requirements based on their blood type. We all have different blood types and DNA. It is very important to know what your blood type is, so that you can follow this diet regimen. There are four different blood types and each type has a different eating plan to follow.

Dr. D'Adamo recommends that everyone eat mostly fresh, natural foods, and cut out processed foods. He also recommends consuming fat daily, and limiting sugar and alcohol. You should focus on a more vegetarian diet which includes vegetables, fruits, legumes, and grains. This diet should be high in carbohydrates and low in proteins and fats. Gentle exercise such as yoga, golf and walking are best for type As.

Blood group B (The Nomad)

The Nomad, this group has a strong immune system, and tolerant digestive system, so they can eat most foods. You should eat a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, dairy products, grains, fish and meat. Type B is the only blood type that can fully enjoy a variety of dairy foods. This type has some specific foods that should be avoided such as chicken, lentils, most nuts and seeds, corn, and shellfish. Excellent forms of exercise for Type B's include walking, hiking, tennis or swimming.

Blood group AB (The Enigma)

Type AB is the newest blood type and is the rarest, found in less than 5% of the population. People with this rare blood type should eat a combination of the foods recommended for blood groups A and B. Your diet should be a balanced mix of meats, dairy, vegetables, beans, and grains. You should limit your intake of chicken, beef, and pork. Seafood, tofu, beans, and legumes are great protein sources for this blood type. Exercising is very important to reduce stress and maintain emotional balance in people with blood group AB. A combination of calming and moderate-intensity exercises is recommended for this blood type.

Because blood type O is the oldest blood type, D'Adamo suggests that you should eat in a manner similar to your ancestors. People with blood type O are hunters and meat eaters. Your diet should be high in proteins, which can be found in lean meat, fish, and poultry. You should also eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. Foods such as grains, legumes and dairy should be avoided. Basically your diet should be low in carbohydrates and high in proteins. Types Os benefit more from vigorous exercises such as bicycling, running, swimming and jogging.

  1. If you don't know your blood type, visit your doctor or a blood bank to get tested.
  2. Eat the right foods for your blood type.
  3. Eat smaller but more frequent meals throughout the day.
  4. Avoid processed or refined foods, including white rice, white flour and sugar.
  5. Stay properly hydrated by drinking enough water during the day.
  6. Don't forget to exercise on a regular basis.
  7. Eat slowly and chew food well before swallowing.
  8. Get a good quality sleep every night. Sleep at least 8 hours a night.
  9. Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes.
